Structural Repairs to Brewers Warehouse
Colbran & Wingrove were recently appointed to carry out essential structural repairs at Brewers wallpaper warehouse in Eastbourne.
This large-scale commercial and industrial building was built in the 1960s –1970s and had experienced prolonged ground subsidence and seasonal structural movement. As a result, the premises had significant cracking and displacement to masonry elevations at the rear of the building.
Following a detailed assessment and working closely to the engineer’s design, our team undertook a comprehensive programme of structural remediation works.
The scope of works included the careful demolition and rebuilding of affected masonry and the installation of structural wind posts. It also required the formation of movement joints to accommodate future movement, and remedial wall tie replacement to restore the integrity and long-term performance of the building envelope.
Project Delivery
Given the importance of keeping the facility operational, we worked closely with Brewers to deliver the project in two planned phases. An approach that also allowed for a sequence of works that would preserve its structural integrity.
To protect the structure during construction, external scaffolding was encapsulated with a temporary roof. It enabled masonry repairs to proceed regardless of the weather conditions and we were proud to report zero water ingress during the project.
The building is now successfully stabilised and this project is a great example of our ability to deliver complex structural repairs, manage subsidence remediation, and carry out commercial building works in occupied buildings.
