All Fired Up & Ready for Winter?

Sales of wood-burning stoves have risen by 40% in the past year. With experience in installations, we answer a few common questions.

Woodburner Installation by Colbran & Wingrove

When the weather is cold and wet, there's nothing more appealing than an open fire or a wood-burning stove.

With concern over the increase in fuel costs we’re experiencing and they've never been more popular.

According to the Stove Industry Alliance, many people are choosing to install a stove to supplement their gas and electric heating. In the three months to June 2022 around 35,000 log burners were purchased compared to 25,000 in the same period last year.

Whilst high fuel costs are good reason to consider the installation of a burner, it isn't the only solution. If you have an existing fireplace, a simple renovation could provide a far more cost effective alternative.

Here's some of the questions we're often asked:

  • What does Ecodesign mean? This is a European Standard that guarantees stoves installed after 2022 meet new higher, minimum efficiency and a reduction in the maximum permitted level of NOx's and carbon emissions.

  • What's the difference between wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves? Wood-burning stoves exclusively burn wood logs and/or briquettes, whereas multi-fuel stoves can burn wood plus natural and manufactured smokeless fuel.

  • Can I burn any type of wood? No - dry, well seasoned wood is essential, weather you're using a log burner or open fireplace
