Decorating Ideas That Stand Out

There’s something we’ve noticed about the decorating projects we manage for so many of our clients. Take a look through our projects section and you’ll spot it over and over again.

That common thread is a single statement piece, design feature or a detail that punctuates or unites the entire decorating scheme to make it really stand out.

Sometimes it can be seen in the use of a bold colour or pattern. Often, it’s the placement of an unusual wallpaper or the addition of some great lighting. Whatever its form, it’s that expression of individuality and creativity that we love to spot and bring to life.

Creating a Feature Wall

Wallpaper can really pack a punch, bringing colour, pattern, and personality to a room.

In designing a scheme for a nursery near Tunbridge Wells, the homeowners opted for a playful wallpaper print. They also picked out the base colour, a rich lilac tone, and used it on the built-in wardrobe doors, fireplace and mirror frame. A neutral off-white on the remaining walls and floorboards prevents it from being too busy or bright. Take a look here.

For a newly created master bedroom and adjoining dressing room in Eastbourne, a series of wall panels featuring hummingbirds and trailing orchids spans an entire wall. Its bold design has been cleverly balanced by a soft blue-green paint finish throughout the rest of the room whilst a pale pink accent colour has been picked out for soft furnishing, accessories and several pieces of freestanding furniture as pictured here.

Lift a Scheme with Lighting

Feature lighting is another great way to add colour and interest.

In the kitchen, pendant lights over a central island or bar are an enduring favourite. In two recent projects, we have seen some beautiful designs in glass.

In this stunning new kitchen in Meads a run of seven pendants hanging at varying heights in different colours and shapes adds interest and colour.

Colourful Expression

Dark, saturated colours such as navy are still trending, but deep shades of green are starting to dominate. If you’re pattern-shy, consider a feature wall in a rich colour as an alternative to wallpaper. Just ensure the paintwork is on point; this is a job for an experienced hand to ensure there are no wobbly edges.

Autumn 2021 has seen warm, natural tones start to emerge as the season’s top colours.  Blood red, terracotta and burnt orange were among the colours to stand out at the Maison & Object design fair in Paris this September according to online portal Houzz. Find out more here.
