Stripping Back

The brief was to bring the front of the house into line with a modern, timeless look. Our team started by removing the first floor vertical tiling to the porch and preparing the substrate for new work. The low pitched roof came off next, along with the eaves and ceiling, and the opening was temporarily weathered while the new structure took shape.

Reshaping The Entrance 

With the old porch stripped back, the front elevation was altered to centralise the opening for a new doorway. The masonry beneath the first floor landing window was cut down and prepared, and the walls to the front and side of the porch were raised at ground floor level to carry the new roof. The two side windows were removed and blocked up ready for rendering. New lintels and making good followed to the ground and first floor left hand side windows.

A New Roofline

A new flat roof and overhanging canopy were built over the porch, finished in a liquid plastic covering with abutment detailing to the first floor. New fascia and soffits were added to complement the house.

Windows, Doors And Finish

New anthracite-on-white aluminium windows and a feature front door went in across the front of the house: the four front windows, the landing window to the front of the porch, the WC window to the side, and the front entrance door with sidelights. Render was applied to the front of the house above the ground floor windows, and to the front and sides of the porch down to ground level. The new porch ceiling was boarded and plastered, walls disturbed by the works were made good, and the altered window reveals and heads were finished.

The Finished Result

Clean lines, quality materials and a carefully considered design have transformed the front of this family home into a modern, timeless space. Electrical work to the altered porch and new external lighting completes the entrance.
